Commission – Georgetown Library

Georgetown Library Exterior Front

Last year I had the great opportunity of photographing the renovated Historic Georgetown Library. The library was devastated by a fire on April 3rd 2007, leaving little beyond the masonry exterior walls as seen on this article and this videoMartinez + Johnson Architects took on the challenge of rebuilding and renovating the historic landmark.

The rebuilt icon of Georgetown blends modern features seamlessly with the historic fabric and feel of the original library. The 3rd floor of the library houses the Peabody collection (a special collection of Georgetown neighborhood history), while the basement has the children’s library as well as meeting rooms.

The site, which was already one of the best overlooks of Georgetown, now features a stepped amphitheater space allows light to enter into the children’s library. More photos of the Library are below.
